Our story is not unique. Many families from the east, south, and California fall in love with Montana. My husband and I, both from the east coast, were widowed and married in 1997. We wanted a “new life” and the perfect summer vacation for our 8 children and their families…a staggering total of 37 people.

Our search began and ended in Bigfork, Montana. We visited 5 western states and Canada for 6 weeks. After hiking in Glacier National Park…”The Crown Jewel of the Continent”…fishing the rivers of the Flathead Valley, and horseback riding through the Bob Marshall Wilderness…I knew right away. My husband, like most practical men, insisted on completing the search…and I am happy we did. The Rockies…in the US and Canada…were breathtaking, as was the entire trip. But, when we returned to Bigfork, both of us agreed that we had indeed found our special place.

Over time we bought an original 50 acre homestead and lovingly restored the cabins …small (1,400’ to 3,500’) as well as a large historic barn (6,000’) on the meandering Swan River…flowing between the Swan and the Mission Mountains and adjacent to the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Each cabin is privately situated with its own dock, yet has easy access to the other cabins for a family reunion. In summer of 2009 we added a fifth cabin…located on a fast flowing section of the Swan River (trout fishing out your front door)…also in Bigfork. Please visit our Gallery of Homes.

Bigfork, situated on Flathead Lake…the largest fresh water lake west of the Mississippi… is truly the quintessential small, patriotic town with charm. Its narrow streets are nestled into the surrounding hillside…dotted with a summer playhouse, galleries, fine restaurants, and unique shops. Don’t miss the array of water sports and hiking trails.
